First Lady, H.E Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has hosted winners of the 2022 edition of The Spelling Bee competition.
The meeting was held at the office of the First Lady on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo said she is still fascinated by the sheer brilliance of the young ones and has promised to collaborate with Young Educators Foundation, organizers of the competition to support the winners in their future endeavors.
“It is clear from my interactions with them that the Spelling Bee competition has had a positive impact on them in terms of confidence and articulation”, she posted.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to improving literacy in children and discussed ways in which Spelling Bee Ghana can liaise with the Rebecca Foundation’s Learning to Read Reading to Learn Initiative to extend the principles of Spelling Bee to more Ghanaian children.
On Saturday, February 5, 2022, 10-year-old N’Adom Darko-Asare, a pupil of DPS International Ghana won the 2022 Spelling Bee competition.
Miss Darko-Asare’s championship word was “BATHYPELAGIC.”
10-year-old Nii Odartey Elorm Manyo-Plange of The Roman Ridge School emerged first runner-up with Aarna Bhaveshkumar Tailor, 11 from the DPS International Ghana, Tema, being the second runner-up.
Nii Odartey and Aarna both missed their final words but fortunately got to be named finalists based on points accrued from their performance.
The trio were received by the First Lady.
