Siemens Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education with a pledge to work with government to champion the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education agenda.
Leading a delegation of staff from the company, Mr Edmund Acheampong, the Country Manager of Siemens Ghana, paid the courtesy call to the Minister with the aim of discussing partnership opportunities to promote STEM education in the country.
A statement from the company and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the visit was also to present the winning Siemens-sponsored Senior High School students who participated in Eskom Science Expo for Young Scientists, an annual science fair held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
It said students from Lincoln School with their innovative science research project led to the winning of the gold medal and raised high the flag of Ghana."
The statement said Siemens has established a Siemens-equipped laboratory in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to equip engineering students with relevant skills.
It said Siemens Ghana has entered an agreement with the Takoradi Technical University to set up a similar lab on their campus.
"We have also refurbished and restocked the Information, Communication and Technology lab of Sekondi College with 45 state of the art computers and accessories", the statement said.
It said Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, commended Siemens Ghana for their various initiatives adding "I have always known Siemens will grow with us".
