The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC) has affirmed the nomination of Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III as the legitimate person to be installed as Teshie Mantse.
Teshie, a fishing community in the Greater Accra Region, has been without a chief since the death of Nii Ashikwei Akomfra III in 1985.
According to the GARHC "any attempt to install a chief led to destruction of lives and property".
Mr Theophilous Armah Ashai's affirmation was contained in the House's committee's report presented to the factions by the GARHC on Tuesday at the Guggisberg Memorial Hall, Dodowa.
A three-member committee headed by Nene Kabu Abram Akuaku, Ada Mantse stated that "the Committee recommended that Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III known in private life as Theophilus Armah Ashai should be nominated and installed as Teshie Mantse. This decision was affirmed at a General House meeting".
Other members of the Committee are the late Nene Atsure Benta III, (Prampram Mankralo) and Nene Kanor Atiapah III (Ningo Mankralo) while former Registrar of the House, Mr Samuel Yeboah Menkah was the secretary. The committee was inaugurated in 2013.
The report stated that in its findings, the line of succession to the Teshie stool was through the father blood line ( patrilineal) , and that the principal king makers of the paramount stool were the Wolomo, Mankralo, Shikitele and the Dzaasetse.
The Committee recommended that since the candidate satisfied all criteria of selection, he should be presented to the principal kingmakers for installation.
On the position of a Mankralo of the town, the Committee recommended that "the installation of Tsitsi-tse Nii Klu Din Okan Nmashie IV and Nii Okang Duamro Nmashie III, should be declared null and void".
It further stated that requested the gate (Nii Klu Din We) whose turn it was to nominate a candidate to be installed as Teshie Mankralo, and that "they renominated Jonathan Adjetey Adjei known with the stool name Nii Okang Duamro Nmashie III as the Mankralo of Teshie and the committee affirmed same".
The report, touching on the positions of Shikitele, noted that the elders of Agbawe quarter based on the request from the committee, submitted the name of Seth Sowah Osekre as the candidate to be installed as Teshie Shikitele.
The Committee report recommended that the Dzaasetse position should move to Ashitey We adding that "the elders of Ashitey We, should meet and nominate a candidate as the Dzasetse since the next Teshie Mantse will be coming from Ashitey We".
It further recommended that "Dzaase" was a kingmaking body and that the head of the kingmaking body was called "Dzaasetse" adding that "it is the committee's stand that the Dzaazetse is a kingmaker and therefore cannot be registered as chiefs".
Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, President, GARHC, advised the factions in the chieftaincy dispute to resort to lay down procedure if they want to challenge the ruling reminding them that the Chieftaincy Act 759 of 2008 provided that such issues should handled by the Regional House of Chief.
Nii Dowuona added that they could proceed to the National House of Chief and subsequently to the Supreme Court if they did not agree with the recommendations of the Committee.
He however urged them to unite and promote peace among themselves to enable the Teshie Traditional Council to be inaugurated as it was the only area out of the 13 traditional areas in Ga-Dangme that did a stool occupant.
