Some visually impaired persons in the Ho Municipality have appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to engage them in government's flagship Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative.
Mr Kofigah Mawuli, a pupil teacher with the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School in Ho, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that they were ready and willing to take advantage of government's intervention policies, but largely left out of the implementations.
He said although they had problems with sight, a few of them had private farms and could take part in government's interventions in Agriculture.
Mr Kofigah said many people with visual impairment could easily partake in "Rearing for Food and Jobs" programme under the PFJ and appealed to government to develop a special package for them.
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture last year hinted of rolling out the 'Rearing for Food and Jobs' (RFJ) programme, to facilitate growth in the livestock industry.
The programme is designed towards increasing livestock production to meet the high demand for meat and reducing importation in the industry, but only for the livestock rearing.
Mr Kofigah said when given the opportunity they could perform better than others on the programme and enhance their lots.
Mr Alfred Badzrah, Desk Officer, PFJ, Volta Region, said the policy was for all Ghanaians and encouraged PWDs to register and take advantage of the intervention.
He said although the Rearing for Food and Jobs programme was yet to start, registration was on-going for beneficiaries and called on all to take advantage of it.
