Mr. George Orwell Amponsah, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has advised the youth to strive to use their skills and expertise for productive ventures.
This, he said, was necessary if they were to contribute positively to the nation’s development processes for the betterment of the Ghanaian society.
He reminded them that the sustainable growth of any country was a shared responsibility, saying it was expected of the youth to complement efforts of the government in the area of humanitarian and community outreach programmes.
Mr Amponsah was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkrankese near New Edubiase in the Adansi South District, on the sidelines of a ‘Voluntary Work Camp’, designed to bring the youth together for community service.
The 16-day programme on the theme, “Promoting Patriotism through Volunteering in Community Development”, was held under the auspices of the NYA.
Participants were drawn from the various Districts in the Ashanti Region and the objective was to promote patriotism and civic responsibility amongst the youth.
As part of the programme, the youth in partnership with the District Assembly, community leaders and NYA, commenced the construction of a public place of convenience to replace the community’s outmoded toilet facility which had become a death trap.
Mr Amponsah said the Authority would continue to imbue the youth with a sense of voluntarism to enable them serve humanity wholeheartedly.
