Mr. Adordie was addressing this year's World Teachers’ Day Celebration at Tongor-Tsanakpe in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region, on the theme: “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher."

He said it was imperative for teachers to desire to be financially independent because such “freedom” provided the teacher peaceful mind to deliver quality teaching to children.Mr Adordie said it was impossible to achieve a goal without determination, self-discipline and a good financial background and urged teachers to invest in profit ventures.

Madam Justina Ziemen, District Director of Education, South Dayi, said the role of teachers in providing quality education and academic excellence was profound and called for support from all.

Madam Ziemen lamented that low salaries, poor school infrastructure, delay in promotions, among others were hindering quality education delivery. Mr Rockson Defeamekpor, Member of Parliament (MP), South Dayi Constituency, said the nation’s quest for quality education would be a mirage without having qualified teachers in classrooms.

"We cannot disagree with anyone who dares to say that should we get it wrong in the classroom, we would get it wrong in the future when these kids are released into the world of opportunities. In the world where one's potentials and prospect would be the consideration, the foundational, impartation, would prove itself whether sufficient or weak," he stated

Mr. Michael Dogbey, Chairman, Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), South Dayi District, charged teachers to take advantage of the available short courses to upgrade themselves for greater opportunities.
