Organised in Milan by Italy's leading trade union, CGIL, the Futura event launched the campaign for the referendums on work and citizenship on 8 and 9 June.
Almost 5 million Italians abroad called on to vote.
Almost 12 hours of live coverage from the Milan Camera del Lavoro, more than 1,000 posts on Facebook and Instagram of content with the hashtag #insiemeperilreferendum, from all over Italy, and links with some of the main venues in Europe. A two-day event that ended with the launch of the new campaign slogan for this referendum: 8 e 9 giugno Si vota Sì. (8 and 9 June Vote Yes.)
Organised by the Italian CGIL trade union, Futura 2025 kicked off the referendum campaign for 5 yes votes. The two days featured 47 guests in the studio in Milan and via remote links, from the world of show business, civil society, and the trade unions, the aim being to highlight the five issues of the referendum on 8 and 9 June.
In particular, the referendum questions aim to increase rights at work: greater protection in the case of unlawful dismissals, for both small and large companies, reduction of temporary work and more safety, greater responsibility for the client in the event of accidents involving contractors
The referendum also concerns the right to citizenship, which a yes vote would make more accessible as the required years of legal residence in Italy would be reduced from 10 to 5.
These were therefore the focus points at an event that saw the studio in Milan act as a conduit for all the venues in Italy and Europe, with live links to some of them.
There were four in Italy: Bari, Naples, Rome and Turin, and three in Europe: Brussels, Paris and Barcelona.
The importance of these links is due to the need for participation by Italians abroad, who total almost 5 million and represent nearly 10% of the Italian electorate.
