The facilities were constructed at an estimated cost of GH¢494,000. The nurses’ quarters can accommodate four families.
The health facility comprises a consulting room, maternity ward, antenatal care unit, dispensary, children's ward, male and female wards and a public health section, which will help with the smooth dispensation of medical services.
It forms part of the corporate social responsibility of the mining company to the host community.
Prior to the construction of the health facility, the people in the community travelled long distances for their health needs.
The company, which started operation in the area in 2012, had established a fund known as Edikan Gold Mine Trustee Limited to support the communities in the area.
The General Manager of the company, Stephen Kofi Ndede, said just after four months the centre became operational it had served 730 patients, including 25 successful child deliveries.
Apart from the health centre and the nurses quarters, he said the company had provided classroom blocks, teachers’ quarters, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres, CHIPS Compound, library, potable water and scholarships for 142 brilliant, needy students in its area of operation.
