Heritage Bank, a wholly owned Ghanaian bank, on Thursday, donated thousands of Mathematics Revision Books to Senior High Schools (SHS) through the Ministry of Education.
A statement by the bank, copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Mr Ebenezer Akyeampong, Head of Marketing, Branding and Communication, said the donation was done in collaboration with other agencies working closely with renowned professors and teachers in the area of mathematics and science education.
The statement said Heritage Bank, believes in the dream of Ghanaians. “We believe that it’s possible for a Ghanaian child from a deprived community to attain higher education and achieve his or her dream of launching a rocket to the moon.
“Therefore, when this idea came to us, we thought we have to do everything possible to support it and push the government’s Free Senior High School programme”. The statement said the initiative will improve the learning of Mathematics and Science to churn out leaders, who can drive innovation and be at the forefront of development in the country, adding that, it’s their vision for every SHS student to have a copy of the book in few years later.
According to the statement, the Minister of Education, who received the books on behalf of the Schools congratulated Heritage Bank and other agencies who supported to bring the idea into fruition.
It said the Minister challenged them to do more by way of printing copies of the books for distribution to every SHS student, since all the organisations need a work force, who are well vexed in Mathematics and Science. The statement said government is also very committed to supporting girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, therefore the action by the Bank and other agencies will go a long way to support the agenda.
