The University of Ghana, Legon held a congregation ceremony for all levels: BSc. Administration, PhD, MPhil, MBA, EMBA, EPM, MPA, MSc and MA of the College of Humanities on the 20th and 21st of July, 2018 at the Great Hall. Present were faculty, staff, graduands and other stakeholders.
The BSc. Administration congregation ceremony was held on the 20th of July 2018. It begun with an address by Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, Provost of the College of Humanities. He started his speech by acknowledging the presence of the international students, indicating that the University in its own way acknowledges the presence of all forty-seven countries who make up the international students' body by hanging their respective flags in the Great Hall on such a great day.
Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, the Registrar of the University of Ghana called on Prof. Yaw Twumasi, Chairman of the Governing Council to deliver the welcome address in the stead of the outgoing Chancellor, Mr. Kofi Annan. Prof. Yaw Twumasi acknowledged the importance of the congregation and commended the graduands for completing their education successfully, wishing them good luck and success in their future endeavours.
The Vice -Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro-Owusu in his speech, congratulated the graduands. He outlined the university's prospective strategic plans and a report on its yearly activities: admission requirements, research innovation, infrastructural progress and new institutional partnerships to ensure a quality teaching and learning experience.
Concerning updates on development in the University, he stated the inclusion of new courses in the curriculum, the upgraded admission process, receipt of international accreditation, as well as funding from strategic collaboration with other universities. Prof. Oduro-Owusu said there has been a strategy execution to drive the transformational agenda of the University of Ghana. He also acknowledged the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy and other stakeholders for their support.
Speaking on the University's major achievements, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro-Owusu made mention of the University of Ghana emerging on top of the list for Golden Age University ranking in West Africa.
Mr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah, a visiting Scholar and the Director of the Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka Foundation at the University of Johannesburg was the Guest Speaker on the 20th July morning congregation while Mr. Franklin Sowa, the Director of Marketing and Sales at Graphic Communications Group Ltd was the Guest Speaker for the 21st July afternoon congregation.
Miss Naa Oboshie Anang, an Accounting graduate who had a final GPA of 3.94 and Miss Golda Anambane who attained an MPhil in marketing were the valedictorians for the 20th July morning and the 21st July afternoon sessions respectively.
