Ten foreign nationals have been arrested in Weija in the Greater Accra Region for their alleged involvement in cybercrime-related activities, the Ghana Police Service has announced.
The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-led operation by the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). According to a statement posted on the Police Service’s official Facebook page, the suspects include individuals of Chinese and Malaysian origin.
The group is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations. During the operation, law enforcement officials retrieved a large cache of electronic devices, including over 800 assorted mobile phones, several computers, and numerous charging units. All exhibits have been secured for forensic analysis.
The Police indicated that the operation was part of a broader effort to clamp down on sophisticated cybercrime networks believed to be operating within parts of the capital. Investigators are said to be examining the devices for evidence that could support possible charges.
While details about the specific offences under investigation have not been disclosed, the volume of digital equipment retrieved has raised concerns about the scale of the cyber activities being run from the location.
The Ghana Police Service and its partner agencies have stepped up efforts in recent years to combat cybercrime, a growing challenge that threatens financial systems, personal data security, and national digital infrastructure.
Authorities say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
