Mr Noble John Watson Otumfuo, the Chief Executive Officer of Mayfair Estates Ltd, who made the call said: “As we celebrate 70 years, let us use this opportunity to reflect on our values and how they will continue to represent the school’s ambitions for the next 70 years.

“Being the foremost military basic school Services must continue leading with quality education and discipline but remember to be ahead of the curve by employing state-of-the art teaching and learning methods.” The Anniversary, on the theme: “Celebrating 70 Years of Quality Education and Complete Human Development” would be celebrated on Saturday October 21 at the Schools Premises, Burma Camp, and a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday October 22, 2018 at the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church, Burma Camp.

The activities would be preceded by Inter-Schools quiz and debate, family day out with parents and students, old students’ forum and clean up exercises.  Mr Otumfuo also called on teachers to equip students with Information and Communication Technology skills to help the students adopt new changes of development and keep pace with them.

He encouraged students to study hard to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions towards the development of the nation. Ms Ernestina Nyarko, the Headmistress of the School, said the school was currently a double stream school with a student population of 958 made up 470 boys and 488 girls.

She said the school over the decades had provided quality disciplined education with learned teachers, and great childhood memories fostered by the learning environment.Touting some achievements of the school, the Headmistress said in 2017, the first ever Best Teacher award organised in the municipality, Services was adjudged the Best Primary School, adding that three teachers were also adjudged the Best in their respective subjects, namely English Language, Integrated Science and French.

Ms Nyarko said BECE rankings in the municipality for 2017 indicated that Services topped all the Public Schools in the municipality and placed 6th for both public and private schools in the municipality. She said the school was faced with challenges including lack of assembly hall, playing ground and Kindergarten block.

Others she said were, car park in deplorable state, re-wiring of the school, beautification of the front view of the school, titling the toilet cubicles, painting the school blocks, connecting ICT lab to internet facility, renovating of classrooms and laying of pavements blocks on the space in front of the TCT Lab.

Services School was established in 1948 by the then British Joint Services Team, to cater for the education of the children of Officers from Britain, Canada and Pakistan who were then working with the Ghana Armed Forces.

In the early 1960s, the school was opened to Ghanaian Officers who could afford to enrol their children in the school. In the early 70s, the Ghana Education Service took over the administration of the school and made it a Public School, opened to all.
