Alhaji Dr Sulemana Iddrisu, Principal of Tamale College of Education (TACE), has appealed to government to help facilitate and expedite work on the three storey 15 unit lecture hall earmarked the college.
He said the construction of the facility, which has been put on hold due to financial constraints, would help address the needs of the ever growing student population of TACE.Alhaji Dr Iddrisu made the appeal during the 5th Congregation of TACE held over the weekend where a total of 726 students comprising 471 regular students and 255 Untrained Diploma in Basic Education students graduated with Diplomas in Basic Education.
He said “it is disheartening to note that a significant number of qualified applicants could not gain admission to the College due to acute inadequate facilities to accommodate them.”Out of a total of 1290 qualified students, who applied to the College for admission for the 2015/2016 academic year, only 574 were admitted.
Alhaji Dr Iddrisu said “the College’s inability to admit these qualified applicants poses a serious threat to access to education to the teeming qualified youth” hence the appeal to government. He expressed gratitude to the government for the ongoing work at the administrative block complex for the College, which would improve its (College) operations.
He commended staff of the College for their hard work, which has culminated in the College’s continued high performance with regards to the Excellence Award organised by the University of Cape Coast for Colleges of Education.Ms Stephanie Quansuwa Tetteh, a graduate of TACE, was the national winner of this year’s Excellence Awards whiles Master Mutaka Dokurugu, also a graduate of TACE, was the Northern Zone winner of this year’s Excellence Awards whiles six other students won TACE Principal’s Awards.
Professor Mohammed Salifu, Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education, whose speech was read on his behalf, advised the graduates not to meddle in chieftaincy issues in their places of postings but to focus on their work to achieve excellence.
