Employees of Airtel Ghana have donated gift items to more than 1,400 pupils of the La Wireless Cluster of Schools in Accra ahead of the Christmas festivities.
The items donated included “Samaritan Boxes” comprising gifts, toys, clothing, stationery and shoes to the nine basic schools that make up the La Wireless Cluster of Schools – one of Airtel Ghana’s adopted schools.
A statement issued in Accra by Mr Richard Ahiagble, the Head, Corporate Communications and copied to the Ghana News agency (GNA) said Airtel had over the years invested in the schools providing infrastructure, teaching and learning materials.
Recently, the company inaugurated a fully stocked library and ICT Centre for the Cluster and launched a coding club to empower and provide an avenue for the pupils interested in coding to fully harness their potential.
The Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs Hannah Agbozo said: “Airtel’s vision for all the schools under its award winning School Adoption Programme is to ensure improvement in both infrastructure and the human potential.”
She said earlier this year Airtel provided a fully equipped Library and ICT Lab to serve as a platform for practical lessons and engagement.“This donation, spearheaded by our employees, is to give the pupils in the Cluster an exciting and memorable celebration during the Christmas festivities,” She said.
Maame Dufie Cudjoe, Airtel Ghana’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager said: “Our annual Christmas parties for schools are events that go beyond a corporate act of goodness.“Our employees are very much involved in the planning and execution process because they derive a lot of joy and fulfilment putting smiles on the faces of these young minds.
“From Adaklu in the Volta Region to Himankrom in the Western Region, we are always eager to travel the length and breadth of the country to meet and surprise pupils from our adopted schools with gifts especially at this time of the year.”
Mr. Cyril Opoku, the Circuit Supervisor representing head teachers of the various schools of the Cluster, expressed gratitude to Airtel Ghana for the continuous support.Under Airtel’s school-adoption initiative, the company works closely with the Ghana Education Service to improve the quality and delivery of education to children in underprivileged communities.
