The Minister of Defence, has directed the authorities at the Sekondi Naval Base, to fast track rehabilitation works on the Slipway, meant for the repair of Naval ships.
Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd), said he expects the facility, which would also be used for the fixing of fishing vessels and offer practical training to students on internship to be completed to coincide with the first oil drill at the Jubilee Oil Fields at the Cape Three Points.
General Smith gave the directive during a familiarisation visit to the Sekondi Naval Base Dockyard in Sekondi.
He pledged to seek extra financial support from the government to fast track the completion of the project.
Commodore Samuel Adjie Aboagye, Superintendent of the Sekondi Naval Base Dockyard, briefed the Defence Minister on the progress of work on the slipway project.
He said 8, 66000 Euros would be needed to complete the project on scheduled.
Commodore Aboakye said the facility would also improve technical assistance to vessels of the oil companies' operating at the Jubilee Fields, create employment opportunities for people in the catchment area and reduce the cost of repairing Naval ships.
