The Goodwill International Group of Companies (GIGC) a limited liability company, has donated 10 desktop computers and two laptops to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to increase productivity in the Editorial Department.
The donation follows a request made by GNA to resource the Department to accelerate processing and the dissemination of news towards national development.
Mr Philip Assibit Akpeena, Managing Consultant of GIGC, said the core principles of Goodwill, were to offer the necessary support to the public sector to grow, hence speedy response to the GNA's request.
He said the work and operations of GNA in nation building and development could not be quantified in any terms and deserved the necessary support not from only Goodwill but all corporate bodies that recognised the importance of the Agency.
Mr Akpeena said the donation was one of the several supports for the public sector development and that GNA would remain on its priority list.
In partnership with the Management, Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) he said, Goodwill would find ways of offering training for the staff of the Agency.
Mr Akpeena pledged to source more computers and laptops for the Agency and urged both the staff and the management to take good care of the equipment.
"We, in Goodwill, will strive to build stronger and cordial relationship with you and I believe strongly that you would accept this small token from us and in our small way find other means of giving you the necessary support to grow," he assured.
Dr Saibu Gariba, Director General of the MDPI, stressed the importance of GNA in serving the news needs of the nation and said its involvement in donating the computers to the Agency would mark the beginning of a renewed relationship to work together for productive results.
"GNA deserves more than receiving computers but this should motivate the staff to worker harder for enhanced productivity and I believe the staff would not use the computers to watch movies as is being done in some other public sectors," he said.
He said Ghana needed to take more critical steps to promote productivity with job satisfaction and rewards for responsible and hardworking employees.
Nana Appau Duah, General Manager of the GNA, received the donation and said there had been a long standing relationship between GNA and MDPI where the Agency's staffs were trained and expressed the joy that the relationship had been renewed.
He thanked the management of Goodwill for the swift response to GNA's request and gave the assurance that the computers would be used judiciously to attract more support for the benefit of the regional and district offices of the Agency.
The Goodwill Group works with the MDPI and the United Nations Development Programme to train and resource public sector institutions to maximise their productivity.
Recently, MTN-Ghana refurbished by the newsroom of the GNA to improve the working environment of the editorial staff.
