A Magistrate's Court at Akim Oda, has imposed a fine of GH�400.00 on an apprentice carpenter for stealing a sack full of plantain worth GH�150.00, belonging to Banson Antwi and Stephen Nartey, both farmers.
The convict, Kofi Tweneboah, who pleaded guilty to stealing, would serve 18 months in prison in hard labour, in default.
Police Chief Inspector Eric Awiadem told the Ghana News Agency that Antwi and Nartey lives at Akim Awisa and Tweneboah lives at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District.
Chief Insp Awiadem said that on the morning of September 10 this year, the complainants detected that plantain had been stolen from their farms.
When Banson was returning from his farm, he met Tweneboah carrying a sack full of plantain.
Chief Insp. Awiadem said Banson confronted Tweneboah and asked him (convict) to show him where he harvested the plantain.
Chief Insp Awiadem said Tweneboah led Banson to Nartey's farm and confessed that he stole the foodstuff from the farms of Banson and Nartey.
