Kwadwo Darkwa, a mason, was, on Thursday, jailed 18 months by the Kade District Magistrate's Court for stealing four goats and a sheep.
He pleaded guilty.
Police Detective Corporal Owusu Achiaw, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was the station manager of the Kade Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, whilst Darkwa, a mason, resided at Okyinso.
He said on August 18, at about 0600 hours, while the complainant was on duty at the lorry station, Darkwa with the carcasses of four goats and a sheep wanted to board a vehicle bound for Accra.
The prosecutor said when the complainant went to inspect Darkwa's luggage to price, it before putting it on board, the convict would not allow him do the inspection.
The complainant then became suspicious of Darkwa's behaviour so when he finally boarded the vehicle with the luggage, the complainant went to the vehicle and demanded that the luggage be opened.
The prosecutor said when the luggage was opened the carcasses of the five animals were found.
He said the complainant, therefore, asked the driver of the vehicle to drive it to the police station where Darkwa was handed over.
Darkwa admitted the offence in his investigation caution statement.
The prosecutor said the owners of the animals were unknown and owing to the condition of the carcasses, they were sold with an amount of GHC 38 being realized.
