The Akim Swedru Circuit Court, in the Birim South District, on Tuesday, sentenced Mathew Marfo, a labourer, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing some cloths and cash at a total value of GH�400.
The court, presided by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, ordered Marfo, 29, to pay GH�200 but in default, he would serve an additional seven months prison
term. He admitted the offence.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah said the complainant: Mr Kingsford Sunkwa, is a gardener who lived with the convict at Akim Oda.
On June 9, when he returned from work at 2000 hours, he detected that his room had been broken into with GH�150.00 and a bag containing some
cloths, valued at GH�250.00, stolen.
Chief Inspector Ahenkorah said later, a witness in the case, hinted Mr Sunkwa that on that day, he spotted Marfo conveying the bag from the house.
Based upon the information, the complainant reported the matter to the Police, who arrested Marfo and during a search conducted in his room found the bag.
