Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Techiman Municipal Coordinating Director, has advised officials for the 2010 National Population and Housing Census to become well abreast with the tenets of the exercise.
He said the objective for the setting up of Municipal and District Census Committees was to decentralize the exercise for effective
supervision.
Alhaji Adam was speaking at Techiman at the inauguration of 13-member District Census Implementation Committees for Techiman, Wenchi, Tain and Nkoranza South Districts.
Members of the committees were selected from the Department of Social Welfare; Electoral Commission; Ghana Education Service; National Commission for Civic Education; Statistical Service; Community Development, Planning
Department, Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Alhaji Adam reiterated that the Statistical Service as well as the Government was determined to ensure an effective, efficient and reliable
census no matter the enormity of challenges.
He urged the Committees to work hard enough to ensure the success of the exercise in their areas.
Giving an overview of the 2010 Population and Housing Census, Mr Omar Seidu, Brong Ahafo Regional Statistician, said about 56,500 qualified personnel throughout the country would be recruited and trained for the exercise.
Mr Godfred Axolu, Techiman Municipal Director of Education, who presided charged, members of the Committees to develop strategies to deal with conflicts that might arise during the exercise.
He urged the participants especially the media to educate and sensitize the public on the need to cooperate with Census Officials.
