Stephen Owusu, a driver, was on Friday convicted to
a fine of GHC 240 by the Kade District Magistrate Court for parking his vehicle at an unauthorized place.
Owusu will default serve four months imprisonment in hard labour.
When he explained that he parked at the spot entrance of the St.
Dominic hospital because he did not see "no stopping or parking sign" the Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, asked him if he needed to see a road sign before he averted his mind to danger.
The magistrate further asked Owusu who was arrested when he stopped his taxi cab number GT 2439 Q at an unapproved area if he needed a road sign to drive with care and reduce speed in rainy condition.
When the magistrate demanded to see his driver's license it was realized that the date of issue was March 27, 2008.
Mr Iliasu then reminded him that he was not expected to drive after March 27, 2010 without renewing his license.
He was arrested on May 28, two months after the expiry of his license and the court ordered him to surrender the license to the police.
The magistrate said if he was unable to pay the fine for the first offence he would go to prison for four months.
Mr Iliasu told him that his second offence of driving without a valid license was a strict liability and he should re-appear in court on June 08.
He should be prepared to pay a fine of not less than GHC 600.
