Two Commercial drivers, Isaac Djekatey and Emmanuel Owusu Amoako, who flouted road traffic regulations were, on Friday, convicted to a total fine of GHC 360 by the Kade District Magistrate's
Court.
In convicting them, the Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, observed that about three weeks ago a number of drivers who appeared before him
received sentences which appeared not deterrent enough and warned that those contravening the laws would receive heavier sentences.
Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, prosecuting, told the court that it had been the practice of some commercial drivers to park at unauthorized spots at Boadua and in front of the St Dominic Hospital.
To check those negative acts, the Akwatia Police, led by the District Commander, mounted an exercise to arrest offending drivers.
Djekatey, driving a taxi cab with registration number GW 419 T, stopped
at a T-junction, a place where drivers are forbidden from parking their vehicles, boarding passengers or having them disembark.
In so doing, Djekatey posed danger for other motorists and was, therefore, arrested and processed for court.
In the case of Amoako, he stopped in front of the hospital for passengers to alight or to board.
He was driving an Opel Vectra taxi with registration number ER 1323 U and was arrested at about 1600 hours.
