The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Chief Executive, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah has called on traditional authorities in the area to sensitized their people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to enable them receive medical care when they attend hospital.
She said the Health Insurance Scheme was instituted to promote the health of Ghanaians and therefore the government has put in place the
necessary mechanism to ensure its sustainability.
Madam Aboah made the call when she addressed members of the Breman Asikuma Traditional Council at Breman Asikuma.
She said reports reaching her indicate that most of the people in the district have not registered with the scheme, making it impossible for them access medical care.
She said the district assembly has put in place policies and programmes to improve its internal revenue generation to fund more development projects.
Mrs Aboah informed the chiefs that officials from the Agona West Municipal Town and Country Planning Division have been assigned additional
responsibilities to work with the Works Department sub-committee, to ensure proper planning of the district.
Nana Amoakwa Boadu VIII, Paramount Chief of Breman Asikuma Traditional Area and President of the Traditional Council, promised the chiefs'
readiness to partner with them for the rapid development of the district.
Nana Amoakwa Boadu urged the chiefs to educate their people on the importance of the NHIS and the need for them to register with the scheme.
Mrs Monica Ruth Pentsil, acting Central Region Administrator of Stool Lands Department, said a branch has been opened in the district and appealed
to the chiefs to cooperate with the officers to discharge their duties efficiently.
