The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ashaiman Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), on Thursday launched a fire prevention campaign programme at Ashaiman.
The beneficiaries of the campaign included market women from the Ashaiman market, businessmen, chop bar operators, and shop owners.
Numo Adinortey Addison, the Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, said the assembly was working hard to rehabilitate the Ashaiman Fire Station.
He said he was disappointed at the recent fire outbreaks and appealed to the public to be circumspect in handling electrical gadgets and other items which could cause fire outbreak.
Mr. Evans Ankrah, Greater-Accra NADMO Co-ordinator, said fire outbreaks in Ashaiman and its environs could have been prevented by victims
if they had knowledge about fire prevention.
He called on the public to co-operate with NADMO, and the Fire Service to curb the menace.
Mr George Afare, Assistant Station Officer (ASO) of the Ashaiman branch of the Fire Service, took the market women through the various methods of preventing fire.
