John Kofi Ackon, unemployed, on Wednesday
appeared before a Takoradi Circuit Court for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs.
His plea was not taken and was remanded to re-appear on March 25.
Chief Inspector Felix Danku told the court that on February 25, the Sekondi Drug Law Enforcement Unit, went round some suspected marijuana smoking areas at Amanful
in Takoradi and saw some people dealing in narcotic drugs.
He said the men took to their heels on seeing the Police and while giving them a chase, the Police personnel saw the accused in his wooden kiosk holding a black polythene bag and was quickly arrested.
Chief Inspector Danku said when the polythene bag was searched, about 45 wrappers of
dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found and the accused claimed ownership
but failed to disclose his source of supply.
He said the dried leaves were sealed in the presence of the accused and sent to the Police
Forensic laboratory at Accra for analytically examination which proved positive.
