For Alex Rodriguez, practice makes perfect — and he’s not just talking baseball!
On Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the former New York Yankees player, 43, hilariously revealed he rehearsed his proposal to love Jennifer Lopez with the help of his assistant.
“I planned it for about six months and it was on a beach in the Bahamas,” Rodriguez told Fallon, 44.
“I had the ring, but what was interesting is the three days prior to me going down on one knee and getting engaged was I rehearsed three days in a row.”
“I wanted the sunset to be perfect,” Rodriguez continued before Fallon chimed in to ask if he rehearsed by himself.
“Well, I had my assistant actually with me,” Rodriguez admitted while laughing.
“One time the sunset was at 6:27 [p.m.], the next day 6:29 [p.m.] and then the third day it was raining.”
“So, I kind of came out at around 6:29 [p.m.] and it worked out well,” Rodriguez said of the big day.
Rodriguez popped the question to Lopez, 49, last month on their tropical vacation.
“She said yes,” Rodriguez captioned a photo of Lopez wearing her stunning diamond engagement ring as he holds her hand.
Lopez shared the romantic image on her Instagram, too, including eight black heart emojis in her caption.

“Everyone is super happy for both of them,” a friend of the couple tells PEOPLE.
While J.Lo and A-Rod are over the moon about their future, they aren’t in a rush to walk down the aisle.
Lopez recently explained that she and Rodriguez have so much on their plate, that planning their “I dos” has been pushed to the back burner for now.
“We haven’t started planning yet. You know, we just got engaged! Then right afterwards we started working right away, and we’re working the rest of the year, so I don’t know what’s going to happen,” she told WKTU’s Cubby & Carolina In the Morning.

“We haven’t decided if we’re going to squeeze it in somewhere or we’re going to wait, so, you know. I really don’t know yet. It’s easy, I’m not lying right now!”
The “I’m Real” singer has stayed busy in the month since, releasing her new single “Medicine” last week, complete with a splashy, carnival-themed music video in which she flaunts her iconic derrière.
Lopez has also been filming the stripper drama Hustlers, in which she stars alongside Cardi B, Constance Wu and Lili Reinhart as revenge-seeking strippers who band together with a group of fellow exotic dancers to scam their male Wall Street clients out of thousands of dollars.
