Josephine Mintah, a student of the Pantang Hospital Junior High School, has emerged victor in the ‘’Aspire to Bee’’ spelling competition.
The competition, organized by April Foundation, which is led by popular Ghanaian actress, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, focuses on nurturing an interest in education in underprivileged schools in Ghana.
This year’s spelling competitions sponsored IPMC, which is the third edition, saw various schools in Accra, inclduing Haatso Calvary Presbyterian, St. James Anglican Basic School, Madina Estate Basic School, Abokobi Presbyterian Basic School, Kwabenya Atomic Circuit, Pantang Hospital JHS, Kwabenya M/A JHS, Demonstration JHS and Queen of Peace School, compete for various prizes.
Mintah, scaled above her counterparts, to win the ultimate prize of GH¢1,000.00 cash prize.
She took home a dictionary, notebooks, storybooks and other stationeries.
Enoch Opare of Madina Estate Basic School and Joseph Jallah from Pantang Hospital JHS came second and third respectively.
Mr. Rizwan Ahmed, Director of IPMC, said he was excited to be partnering this year’s event as they had been in the education sector for quite a while and events like the Aspire to Bee spelling competition, would play a significant role in nurturing the reading culture of Ghana’s budding generation.
Naa Ashorkor, said was impressed by the level of intellect displayed by the students and encouraged them to keep up the good work. She added that, the Foundation plans on expanding to include mathematics and creative competitions in the near future.
