The Third International Trade (INTRADE) Malaysia Exhibition 2009 has achieved the best result of raking in potential sales of 4.22 billion ringgit (1.21 billion U. S. dollars according to a statement on Monday.
The statement issued by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said that this had exceeded the initial target of two
billion ringgit (571.43 million U.S. dollars).
Meanwhile, the statement said that the Third INTRADE, organized by MATRADE, recorded actual sales of 417 million ringgit (119.14 million U.S. dollars).
MATRADE's chief executive officer Noharuddin Nordin said the potential sales figure was based on the feedback received from foreign buyers
participating in the annual Incoming Buying Mission (IBM) program.
He said the potential sales recorded a significant increase of 61.5 percent from 2.6 billion ringgit (742.86 million U.S. dollars) despite global economic slowdown.
The positive feedback not only reaffirmed the importance of Malaysia as a reliable trading nation but also made Malaysian manufacturers and
exporters understand that opportunities abound, Noharuddin added.
A total of 867 Malaysian companies and exporters participated in the IBM program with MATRADE organizing more than 8,000 one-on- one business matching meetings with 609 foreign buyers from around the world.
More than 340 exhibitors from 25 countries and over 7,000 local and foreign trade visitors took part in the three-day exhibition.
