In a welcome address, Mr Paul Asinor, CEO of OML Africa, the event organisers, stated that on-line trading is gradually growing and there was the need to set out strategies and policies so Ghana would benefit from this profitable trade. He said that a study that was conducted estimated that e-commerce in leading economies in Africa would be worth about 75 billion dollars by the year 2025 and was very hopeful that Ghana would not be left out of this fortune.

He enumerated challenges in the industry as infrastructure, security, underdeveloped logistics, difficulties surrounding international bank transactions, customers anxieties over fraud and low credit card penetration in a number of regions adding that people still believed in cash on delivery because of some of these challenges.

The event brought together on-line retailers, telcos, government agencies, banks, cyber security experts, courier services, internet service providers, online payment platforms as well as regulators who would try to lay the foundation for Ghana’s e-commerce industry.

About 40 companies exhibited at the event and the conference was addressed by over 30 local and international experts in the industry.
