Core Duties of a Physician Assistant:
1. Patient Care
Take medical histories
Perform physical exams
Diagnose illnesses and injuries
Develop and manage treatment plans
Provide patient education and counseling
2. Medical Procedures
Perform routine procedures such as:
Suturing wounds
Casting fractures
Administering injections
Incising and draining abscesses
Assist in surgeries as first or second assist
3. Diagnostic Responsibilities
Order and interpret tests (labs, imaging, etc.)
Monitor patient progress
Adjust treatments based on test results
4. Prescribing Medications
Prescribe medications (including controlled substances in most states, with some restrictions)
Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma
5. Collaboration with Physicians
Consult with supervising physicians when needed

6. Administrative and Documentation Tasks
Document visits and procedures
Complete patient charts and forms
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
