Job Purpose
The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for supervising mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring optimal performance of machinery and equipment, leading the mechanical team, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Team Leadership
Supervise, schedule, and assign duties to mechanical technicians and fitters.
Monitor daily mechanical activities and ensure jobs are completed efficiently and safely.
Train, coach, and mentor team members to improve technical skills and productivity.
Conduct toolbox meetings and enforce adherence to safety procedures.
Maintenance & Operations
Plan and oversee preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Diagnose mechanical faults and ensure timely repairs to minimize downtime.
Ensure proper installation, alignment, lubrication, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
Coordinate with production teams to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with company safety policies and statutory regulations.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work permits are obtained where required.
Promote a safe working environment and investigate mechanical-related incidents.
Planning & Reporting
Prepare maintenance schedules, work orders, and job reports.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, spare parts usage, and equipment history.
Support audits and inspections related to mechanical operations.
Spare Parts & Cost Control
Identify spare parts requirements and assist with procurement planning.
Ensure proper storage and usage of tools, equipment, and spares.
Support cost-control initiatives by reducing wastage and downtime.
Continuous Improvement
Identify areas for improvement in machine reliability and maintenance processes.
Support equipment upgrades and modification projects.
Participate in continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
HND / Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
Experience in manufacturing, plastics, FMCG, or heavy industry will be an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
Leadership and people management skills.
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
Computer literacy (MS Excel, maintenance systems).
