Description
JOB PURPOSE:
The HSE Officer shall ensure a safe and healthy work environment by implementing and monitoring health and safety policies, conducting regular inspections, and addressing potential hazards.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety Inspections and Compliance:
- Conduct daily inspections of fire extinguishers on trucks to ensure they are operational and meet safety standards.
- Perform routine safety checks on machinery, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring compliance with industry and company regulations.
- Inspect worksites, facilities, and storage areas to identify and address potential hazards.
Policy Implementation and Training:
- Implement and enforce company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Accident Investigations
- Conduct safety induction and regular training programs for employees on safe work practices, emergency response, and equipment usage.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Control:
- Carry out risk assessments and develop control measures to mitigate potential safety risks.
- Investigate and document workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit monthly health and safety reports to management.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Coordinate and participate in fire drills, evacuation drills, and emergency response exercises.
- Monitor the availability and functionality of emergency equipment such as alarms, extinguishers, and first aid kits.
Incident Reporting and Investigations:
- Record and report all staff, fleet, and equipment accidents or incidents.
- Maintain a detailed log of safety-related incidents and prepare reports for management.
- Coordinate accident and incident investigations to determine root causes.
- Assist in reporting corrective actions and follow up on implementation to prevent recurrence.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety laws and standards.
- Liaise with external agencies, auditors, and regulators during inspections or audits.
Employee Engagement:
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through communication, posters, and toolbox talks.
- Act as a point of contact for employees regarding health and safety concerns or suggestions.
