Position Overview
The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the farm to ensure efficient, safe, and productive agricultural practices. This role involves planning, managing staff, monitoring crops and livestock, maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and meeting production goals. The Farm Manager plays a key leadership role in maximizing farm profitability and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management
Plan, coordinate, and oversee all farm activities including planting, irrigation, harvesting, livestock care, and general maintenance.
Develop and implement seasonal farm plans and production schedules.
Monitor soil conditions, crop performance, livestock health, and overall farm productivity.
2. Staff Supervision
Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers and seasonal labor.
Delegate tasks and ensure staff follow best agricultural practices.
Conduct performance evaluations and maintain a positive, safe working environment.
3. Resource & Equipment Management
Manage farm equipment, vehicles, and tools; schedule regular servicing and repairs.
Order supplies such as seeds, fertilizers, feed, and veterinary products.
Ensure efficient use of water, energy, and other resources.
4. Budgeting & Record-Keeping
Prepare and manage budgets, production forecasts, and financial reports.
Maintain accurate records of crop yields, livestock performance, expenses, and sales.
Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations and health/safety standards.
5. Health, Safety & Compliance
Implement workplace safety policies and ensure all staff follow them.
Maintain compliance with government regulations related to farming operations.
Promote sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices.
6. Customer & Vendor Relations
Communicate with suppliers, contractors, veterinarians, agronomists, and buyers.
Negotiate pricing and manage product distribution/sales.
