Description
A reputable media institution is looking for an Online News Editor for one of its business units in Accra.
Job Purpose
- Ensure platform provides compelling and competitive content across audience interest areas such as News & Current Affairs, Sports, Business, Entertainment & Lifestyle etc.
- Deliver content competitiveness in terms of timeliness, accuracy and relevance. Lead in Breaking News without compromising on ethos.
- Develop plans for the achievement of general objectives of the Business Unit
Key Responsibilities
- Write news stories.
- Originate or approve ideas for news stories.
- Direct or participate in editing activities.
- Read and edit news copy to ensure that slanderous, libelous, and profane statements are avoided or deleted.
- Ensure zero tolerance for wrong grammar in stories published .
- Develop the team to write with style and adapt stories creatively for online.
- Lead or Participate in daily news editorial and production meetings.
- Supervise Assisting Editors, Senior Reporters and Online Reporters assigned to the Business Unit.
- Train and support the team to regularly conduct in-depth research to support their work.
- Motivate and coach team to ensure accountability and optimal performance.
- Work closely with the Editor to make news judgments on all stories submitted for publication.
- Make contacts and gather information about news issues and events in community, region, state, continent and world to inform writings and editorial work.
- Work with Regional Correspondents to generate impactful content for online
