Description
Job Purpose:
The Senior Accounts Officer will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial transactions, reporting, and compliance with accounting standards. This role is key in managing financial records, preparing statements, and supporting the finance team with reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all company transactions.
- Ensure that all accounting entries are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Supervise and ensure the timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Review and approve invoices, payment requests, and reconciliation of vendor accounts.
- Monitor outstanding payments and follow up with clients to ensure timely collections.
Bank Reconciliation:
- Perform regular reconciliation of bank statements, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring balances match company records.
- Investigate any discrepancies and provide solutions to resolve them.
Tax Compliance:
- Assist with the preparation of tax returns, including VAT, GST, and corporate tax filings, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations.
- Support the audit process by preparing necessary documents and responding to auditor inquiries.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly financial reports for management, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial reports for external stakeholders.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Contribute to the development and review of financial budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide recommendations for improvements.
Internal Controls:
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies to prevent errors and fraud.
- Suggest improvements to accounting procedures to streamline operations and ensure financial accuracy.
Team Management:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, ensuring effective work performance.
- Provide training and guidance to the team to enhance their accounting skills and knowledge.
Month-End and Year-End Close:
- Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial information is finalized and accurately reported.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and efficient financial closure.
Financial Analysis:
- Provide financial analysis to assist management in decision-making.
- Monitor key financial metrics and KPIs to track the company's financial performance.
Key Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent are preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and taxation.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and financial regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
