The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has a Scientific and Technical Co-operation agreement with the Government of Ghana and is accorded diplomatic privileges as an International NGO under the agreement. It is one of the Research Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research - (CGIAR), with expertise in sustainable land resources, irrigation and water resources management.  IWMI collaborates actively with CSIR institutes; CSIR –WRI, (Water Research Institute) CSIR –SRI (Soil Research Institute) and a number of local universities.
