The Centre for Democratic Development, (CDD) - Ghana, has organized a forum for all the aspirants contesting the Yilo Krobo constituency parliamentary election in this year's general elections.
They are Mr Christian Kofi Tettey of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Opae Tettey, representing the Convention Peoples Party, (CPP), and Mr Fred Kwasi Tekpetey of the Peoples National Convention (PNC).
The candidate for the main opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC), who is also the incumbent, Member of Parliament, Mr Tawiah, could not attend the forum due to the Eastern Regional tour of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate of the NDC.
All the aspirants pledged to use decent language in their campaigns to avoid any acts that could incite their supporters, because peace was paramount in this year's general election.
The NPP candidate, Mr Tettey said since 1992 the Yilo Krobo seat had been occupied by the National Democratic Congress and urged the electorate to change their voting pattern and vote for the NPP this time round.
He said the track record of the NPP government in the area, in terms of development over the last eight years could not be over emphasized.
Mr Tettey said it was only the NPP that could develop the area and Ghana as a whole, and urged the electorate not to be deceived by the propaganda of the NDC, that NPP government would take all the Krobo lands from them.
"This is a serious calculated attempt by our main opponent, the NDC to discredit our party before Krobos."
He said education, health, sanitation and agriculture would be his major priorities when given the mandate.
The CPP candidate, Mr Tettey, on his part said both the NDC and NPP had failed the area, and urged the electorate to reject them and bring back the CPP to continue with the good policies of the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Mr Tekpetey of the PNC on his part pledged to use his Common Fund judiciously to develop education since it was the bedrock of development.
Ms Theodore Dzeble, Public Affairs Officer of CDD, in her address, said the centre had developed several programmes to support the December polls and to enhance electoral transparency and fairness, as well as the legitimacy of its outcomes.
She said the parliamentary forum was being held concurrently in some 30 constituencies in all 10 regions of the country to help the aspirants to respond appropriately and communicate their programmes more effectively to their audience.
