The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) and the Civil Society Coalition on Tuesday lauded the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) for submitting its report within the prescribed period but expressed concern about its leakage.
In a statement issued in Accra, the CDD said the report should be laid before Parliament and its contents widely publicized and disseminated, without undue politicisation and with full fidelity to its contents.
This, the statement said, would facilitate public education on the country's political history as well as strengthen the unity of the nation, even as it continued to promote reconciliation and peace.
The statement said NRC was set up as an integral part of the process of reconciling the nation and nothing should be done to undermine the prospect of achieving that objective.
"The CDD/Coalition would therefore like to entreat all Ghanaians to exercise utmost restraint with regard to the comments they make on the contents of the report pending official release," the statement said.
The NRC presented its report to President John Agyekum Kufuor last week but it has not been made public.
The private newspaper, the Statesman, on Monday began serialising part of the report, beginning with the murder of the three High Court Judges and Army Officer in 1982. Other private newspapers on Tuesday also published portions of the report.
