The Tema Secondary School (TEMASCO) boys U-17 football team emerged victorious in the 11th Korean Residents Association (KRA) President’s Soccer Championship, held over the weekend at the Korea Sports Complex, Community 3, Site B, in Tema.
The Tema Secondary School (TEMASCO) boys U-17 football team emerged victorious in the 11th Korean Residents Association (KRA) President’s Soccer Championship, held over the weekend at the Korea Sports Complex, Community 3, Site B, in Tema.
Sixteen teams from the Greater Accra Region participated in the championship, which culminated in a thrilling final where TEMASCO defeated Our Lady of Mercy School (OLAMS) 2-0 within the 50-minute stipulated time. The first half ended goalless, but TEMASCO broke the deadlock in the second half and added a second goal to secure the championship.
As champions, TEMASCO received a trophy, flag, 50-inch Smart TV, certificate, and four footballs. OLAMS, the runners-up, were awarded a trophy, 43-inch Smart TV, certificate, and two footballs. TEMATECH and MEDASS secured third and fourth places respectively, with TEMATECH receiving a 43-inch Smart TV, certificate, and two footballs, while MEDASS took home a microwave oven, certificate, and two footballs.
Other participating schools included Teshie PRESEC, MANSECTECH, Chemu SHS, Tema Mission, Ashaiman Technical Institute, Ashaiman SHS, Kpone SHS, Datus International SHS, Lashibi SHS, Nungua SHS, and Ideal College. The tournament began on Thursday, October 23, 2025, with the two finalists qualifying from two groups of eight teams.
Individual awards were also presented. Abraham Amoah from OLAMS was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), TEMASCO’s Philip Okoe won the Golden Boot award, and TEMASCO coach Sromani Ebenezer Otutey was adjudged Best Coach. Addressing the participants, Mr. Otutey commended the organizers and called for more competitions to unearth young talent.
The President of the KRA, Young Gyu Lee, emphasized that the event reflected the solidarity between the Korean community and Tema residents. Speaking on behalf of the Tema Metro Director of Education, Senior Language Coordinator William Obeng encouraged the inclusion of female players in future tournaments to showcase their football talents. Tema Metro Physical Education Coordinator David Copperfield Achu noted that over the past decade, the tournament had produced many players who went on to join local premier teams and gain other soccer opportunities.
