The Ghana Basketball Federation (GBF) has elected a new leadership team at its Elective Congress held on Saturday at the Wesley Methodist Church Conference Hall in Sunyani, Bono Region. Mr. Alex Kukula, a former Vice President of the federation, was elected unopposed as the new President and will serve a four-year term, succeeding Mr. Ato Van-Ess.
Joining Mr. Kukula are Mr. Andrew Ayitey Okoe Bulley as Vice President (Finance & Administration), Mr. Kweku Meme Falconer as Vice President (Technical & Development Programme), and Madam Aurora Commodore-Toppar as Treasurer. The congress was supervised by FIBA observer Mr. Abel Komlan Zotchi and Mr. Kwame Baa-Mensah, Bono Regional Director of Sports.
Mr. Kukula, on behalf of the new executives, thanked delegates for facilitating a successful congress and called for unity in promoting and developing basketball in Ghana. He outlined key priorities for his administration, including player development, enhancing the technical aspects of the game, training coaches, and organizing regular clinics and courses for basketball personnel.
School sports will be a major focus under Mr. Kukula’s leadership, as he emphasized engaging Physical Education instructors to train young players in schools. Additionally, university basketball will be prioritized through collaboration with the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) and Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA).
Women’s basketball will also receive attention, with plans to introduce competitions across all regions. On infrastructure and logistics, the administration intends to seek partnerships with corporate entities and individuals to acquire equipment and facilities to strengthen the sport.
In a gesture of appreciation, the newly elected executives presented jerseys and four basketballs to the host constituent, Sunyani, in recognition of their role in hosting the congress.
