The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) of Ghana have paid tribute to the statesmen who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash.
On Monday, the leadership of the GOC laid wreaths at the forecourt of the Jubilee House in Accra, honouring the memory, legacy, and ultimate sacrifice of the departed.
Speaking at the ceremony, the GOC President expressed the organisation’s condolences to the government and people of Ghana, noting the profound loss to the nation and the sports fraternity.
He revealed that the late Deputy Sports Minister and Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, had been scheduled to serve as a baton bearer for the King’s Baton Relay, which has now been put on hold following his death.
“The GOC and CGA Ghana are in mourning, and we pray for the Good Lord to heal us,” the statement read, underscoring the depth of grief within the sports community.
The wreath-laying formed part of national mourning activities for the eight victims of the crash, which occurred in the Ashanti Region’s Adansi Akrofuom District.
