Karela United have appointed Ghana Premier Lague-winning coach Nurudeen Amadu, who replaces Jimmy James Corbblah, as the Tamale-based club fights to steer clear of the relegation zone.
Also making a move last week was Yaw Acheampong who faces the daunting task of rescuing the league’s bottom club Legon Cities.
In the last few weeks, the Ghana Premier League has witnessed a managerial merry-go-round ahead of the second round, with several clubs shaking up their technical benches in a bid to reignite their campaigns.
Coach Amadu’s arrival at Karela United comes hot on the heels of his departure from FC Samartex 1996, where he was shown the door after a five-match winless streak. Despite this recent setback, his pedigree is unquestionable.
Nurudeen Amadu — Joins Karela United FC
He guided FC Samartex to their maiden Premier League title last season, a historic feat in only their second campaign in Ghana’s top-flight.
Now tasked with turning Karela’s fortunes around, the former Wa All Stars and King Faisal tactician is expected to bring his vast experience to bear to lift the club — currently in 16th position on the league log — from their relegation struggle to a respectable mid-table position.
FC Samartex, meanwhile, have moved swiftly to appoint Christopher Ennin as their new head coach. A former Berekum Chelsea manager, Ennin becomes the Timber Giants’ third coach in three seasons, after previously working with Annor Walker and Amadu.
His immediate challenge will be to steady FC Samartex’s ship and reignite their campaign after a shaky start to the season.
Last week struggling Legon Cities announced the appointment of Acheampong as their new manager, with the respected tactician already enduring a rocky start in his debut match in charge, losing 1-2 to Hearts at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Acheampong parted ways with Aduana FC after 43 matches, recording 17 wins, six draws, and 20 defeats, and now has the difficult assignment of salvaging the Royals’ league campaign.
In other coaching movements, league debutants Young Apostles have turned to Abdul Rahim Bashiru as head coach following the departure of experienced Joseph Asare Badiako. Bashiru, who boasts stints with Great Olympics, Legon Cities, and Hearts of Oak (where he briefly served as interim manager), has been brought in to arrest the club’s poor run of form – the Wenchi-based side lie 13th on the league table, winning four and drawing five of 16 matches -- and inject fresh impetus into their campaign.
Aduana FC, too, have made a bold move, reuniting with Romanian coach Cioba Aristica for a third stint. Aristica took over from Acheampong on matchday 13 and has since lost just one game, signalling a promising start to his latest tenure with the ‘Ogya’ lads.
