Few days after compatriot and stablemate Stanley Nyantakyi chanced upon a world title, light-heavyweight boxer Jonathan Mbanugu alias ‘Jon Power’ will mount the ring in Philadelphia, PA, United States of America to fight for the UBO International Light Heavyweight title on October 12, 2024.
The 22-year-old burly fighter who fights under the Osibor Boxing Promotions label has a fight record of 12 bouts as a professional including a loss and a draw.
His opponent American Kevin Johnson, 33, who has a fight record of seven bouts as a professional including four wins and three losses will be hoping to win after losing his last professional bout.
The bout will be live on PayPer View (PPV} at DMDb.com.
According to Mr. Gordon Frimpong, CE0 of Osibor Promotions, this is a unique opportunity for Mbanugu to make amends after he lost the vacant WBO Youth world title to Albanian Amarildo Bakaj last month.
“This is another great opportunity for Jon Power to announce his presence to the world, he got a second chance and this cannot be wasted, " he told the Daily Graphic,’ he stated.
He charged the northern native to make the most of this bout and bring glory to his homeland and break Ghana’s world title drought.
“We can’t let this opportunity slip by so we have taken it and we are presenting our boxers to go out and show what they have and what they can do. We have Stanley Nyantekyi aka Ashanti Warrior, Jonathan Mbanugu and John Zile who have the chance to fight on the UBO ticket and I am very sure they will put up good shows” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for his blessings adding that it has motivated his charges to get a world title for Ghana.
He thanked the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the UBO for the support and confidence in his boxers as well as the Ghana Sports and Boxing Supporters Unions.
