Ghana's Hasaacas Ladies have crushed out of the ongoing WAFU Zone B qualifiers and missed the chance to grab a ticket to the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League despite securing an emphatic 6-1 victory over Niger side
AS Garde Nationale in their final Group B fixture on Saturday, August 17.
The result was not enough to propel Hasaacas Ladies to the semi-finals of the WAFU B qualifiers despite being tied on four points with second-placed Omnisports Etincelle who have qualified due to superior goals.
Burkinabe Fatoumata Tamboura opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game before Grace Animah and Comfort Owusu added a goal each in quick succession to bring the score to 3-0.
Hoever, AS Garde pulled one goal back just before the end of the first half leaving the score at 3-1 at the Stade De La Paix de Bouaké.
After the break, Comfort Owusu and Grace Animah each grabbed their second goals of the game while Abigail Sakyiwaa also netted once to make it 6-1.
Despite the dominant win, the Ghanaians failed to progress to the next stage of the qualifiers.
Having drawn 0-0 with Burkina Faso’s Omnisports Etincelle in their opening match at the Stade De La Paix de Bouaké last Sunday, Hasaacas Ladies needed a win to keep their qualification hopes alive.
However, they were outclassed by a dominant Edo Queens side, who now sit comfortably at the top of the group with nine points from three matches, in their second group game.
Despite the defeat, Hasaacas Ladies entered Saturday's game with determination, hoping to overturn the disappointment from their previous two games, which they did by scoring six goals.
However, their qualification hopes were dashed as Burkina Faso’s Omnisports Etincelle advanced with four points and four goals.
The semi-finals will see Benin's Ainonvi FC face Omnisports Etincelle while Edo Queens will take on FC Inter d’Abidjan on Monday, August 19, 2024.
In 2021,
Hasaacas Ladies represented Ghana in the first edition of the CAF Women's Champions League where they lost in the final to Mamelodi Sundowns by a 2-0 margin.
