The initiative was to educate the students on how young people could use the internet safely, responsibly and in positive ways.  The session focused on key issues particularly around “Cyberbullying’ which is an emerging phenomenon where bullies use new technologies to make threats, intimidate, harass, defame and exclude young people and, in some cases, to impersonate them or steal their identity.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the programme, Gayheart Mensah Director of External Affairs and Legal at Vodafone Ghana, said “We are excited to support this important initiative again as our contribution to the proper upbringing of children.

“While many opportunities exist for children to learn online, we advocate for a safer and more responsible use of the internet in order to help young people become more confident and resilient online.

“Vodafone is committed to pushing the digitalization agenda and we will continue to use a multi-stakeholder approach to bring about the needed change in our society.” Other key activities held to commemorate the day included a 2-day Hackathon, an endorsement session with key stakeholders and a petition submitted to the respective Ministries by the children for prompt action.

The events were organised by J Initiative (JI), a non-Governmental Organization, working in Ghana to promote the safety and welfare of children.
