Dennis Dzagbana, 18, a Senior High School student
who allegedly strangled his one-and-a-half-year old daughter to death was arraigned at the Dzodze Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a provisional
charge of murder.
Dzagbana, whose plea was not taken, was remanded in police custody until December 20.
Mr Akwasi Asafo-Agyei, Dzodze District Police Commander, told the court presided over by Mr Anthony Abebrese that Dzagbana allegedly confessed to the crime.
He said Dzagbana claimed he was being mocked by his peers in school, insulted by his mother in the house over the baby so he decided to eliminate
the baby to stop his confusion.
Mr Asafo-Agyei said Dzagbana also claimed that his mother also reduced his pocket money because of the baby.
He said Dzagbana and Vida Amable, who were cousins living on the same compound at Dzodze Low-Cost Area, went into a relationship resulting in the baby.
Mr Asafo-Agyei said Dzagbana returned from school on November 19, and went to bed in a different room while the mother with the toddler also slept in a different room.
He said at around 0130hours, Dzagbana sneaked into the room where the toddler and mother were and strangled her without notice.
Mr Asafo-Agyei said in the morning the toddler was found foaming at the mouth and was rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.
He said in the confusion over the incident Dzagbana confessed to a family member and was sent to the police station.
