Former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has said the newly rebranded United Party (UP) will not outlive its founder, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen.
He argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the leadership of Kennedy Agyapong, would gladly welcome Mr. Kyerematen back to help rebuild the party.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Monday, October 20, 2025, Dr. Boakye-Danquah said the NPP does not view the UP as a political threat, citing its poor performance in the 2024 elections.
“We are not threatened at all by UP. I am not too sure it would live beyond Alan Kyerematen, as we saw with CPP, his percentage in the 2024 elections could tell. He is a founding member of NPP,” he said.
Dr. Boakye-Danquah added that the NPP would extend an open hand to Mr. Kyerematen if Kennedy Agyapong wins the party’s flagbearership contest scheduled for January 31.
According to him, Mr. Kyerematen remains a strong political figure whose experience would be vital in rebuilding the NPP.
“We would welcome him back into the party. I am confident that when Kennedy becomes the flag bearer of the NPP and we have a new change and new fresh ideas, Alan Kyerematen would be a formidable person who would be part of the reconstruction of this party,” he stated.
The United Party (UP Plus), which received official registration from the Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025, is a rebranded version of Kyerematen’s earlier political movement, the Movement for Change.
The party’s leadership includes former government officials and professionals from diverse political backgrounds who argue that Ghana needs a new, inclusive direction.
