The Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has expressed strong confidence in former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ability to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in the 2028 general elections, describing him as a tested and trusted leader.
Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign visit to Techiman on Saturday, Mr. Mensah Korsah urged party delegates in the Bono East Region to rally behind the former Vice President in the upcoming NPP Presidential Primaries, scheduled for January 2026. He argued that Dr. Bawumia has earned the trust of Ghanaians through service, humility and resilience.
“Dr. Bawumia has served the party so well. And he served so well as Vice President and made a step forward to the Presidency. He needs to make another step and we all have to push him,” he said.
The MP emphasised that Ghana’s political history shows that presidential hopefuls rarely win on their first attempt. “As we all know, the recent history of this country is that if you want the Presidency you have to try it more than once or you have to try, go and come back before the people of Ghana will accept you,” he explained.
He argued that Dr. Bawumia has already passed the “test” Ghanaians typically set for leaders. “Ghanaians want to test your humility, your patience, your courage. Dr. Bawumia has passed all these tests from Ghanaians so why should we put him aside and go in for someone who has not gone through all these tests and Ghanaians don’t know?” he asked.
Mr. Mensah Korsah also dismissed what he described as attempts by other aspirants to discredit Dr. Bawumia. “They will come here. And they will be here to tell you so many things in their bid to pull down Dr. Bawumia,” he said. “Ignore them because Bawumia is the man well placed to lead the NPP to victory.”
The Techiman South legislator further highlighted the former Vice President’s national appeal, describing him as one of the most recognisable political figures in the country. “Today apart from Mahama, who is well known in Ghanaian politics because he has been President, no politician in Ghana is more popular than Dr. Bawumia. Everywhere we have gone, he is well known by the people,” he stated.
According to Mr. Mensah Korsah, Dr. Bawumia’s extensive visibility and achievements make him the most “marketed” candidate for the NPP. “We have already marketed him. We will need to put in more effort to sell a new candidate; about 10 times more effort than we will require to market Doctor,” he said.
He therefore called on delegates in Techiman and the entire Bono East Region to deliver a resounding victory for Dr. Bawumia in the primaries to send a strong message of unity and readiness to the rest of the country. “If we want to experiment, then we should go back and pick an unknown person. But if we really want to move forward, let’s stick with Bawumia for victory,” he stressed.
Mr. Mensah Korsah concluded that Dr. Bawumia’s years of service, humility and endurance have prepared him for leadership at the highest level. “Ghanaians love to first test our leaders’ values, and Bawumia has passed the test after his first attempt,” he said.
