The Lashibi Senior High School has paid a courtesy call on the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, James Enu, to solicit his support for ongoing development efforts.
The delegation, comprising the Board Chairman, Dr William Oppong, the Headmistress of the school, Vida Antwi, the PTA Chairman and other members of the school management, visited the MP at his office in Parliament.
While congratulating the MP on his recent election, the school leadership used the opportunity to brief him on key developments and persistent challenges facing the school, which serves over 1,500 students within his constituency.
Top among the concerns raised was the lack of a perimeter wall.
The headmistress stated that the absence of a fence has exposed the school to intrusions by unauthorised individuals and stray animals, creating a significant threat to the safety of students and staff and frequently disrupting learning activities.
“There was a time a fetish priest entered the compound to perform incantations, which had a psychological impact on our students. Animals also roam into classrooms during lessons.
This is not a conducive environment for learning,” Mrs Antwi recounted.
She also expressed concern about the condition of the school’s science laboratory, noting that the lack of basic equipment had made it difficult for students to perform practicals, especially in the sciences, leading to a decline in academic achievement.
She, on behalf of the school formally invited the MP to the school’s upcoming fifth anniversary celebration.
In response, Mr Enu expressed his appreciation for the visit and assured the school of his full commitment to helping address the challenges raised.
He pledged to prioritise the construction of a perimeter wall and indicated that a substantial part of his education-focused budget would be allocated to the school.
