Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has defended the actions of the Minority Caucus claiming that the group is not being obstructive, but have rather played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth formation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
According to Dr. Asamoah, the Minority has actively supported President John Mahama’s administration while also safeguarding the interests of Ghanaians.
He stressed that their actions are not meant to frustrate the government but rather to ensure accountability and good governance.
His comments come amid ongoing controversies following the suspension of four Members of Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin. The suspensions were linked to disruptions during the vetting of ministerial nominees.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One News, Dr. Asamoah highlighted the Minority’s constructive approach to the vetting process, emphasizing their commitment to scrutinizing nominees to guarantee the appointment of competent leaders.
**“It would be wrong to say the Minority is being destructive, in fact, we are being constructive. The Minority Caucus in Parliament has been magnanimous to the NDC government and we have supported all that they are doing. But we also have to look out for the Ghanaian and we cannot allow the Ghanaian to be bullied.
“If the Minority is bullied, then it means the Ghanaian is bullied, and I don’t think it’s fair. We are vetting them even to help the government to make sure he [Mahama] is having the right people to support its work. We are there to make sure that NDC succeeds. If the NDC succeeds, the Ghanaian people will benefit,”** he stated.
Dr. Asamoah reaffirmed that the Minority remains committed to constructive engagement in parliamentary proceedings and will continue to hold the government accountable while ensuring national progress.
